John Whaite and Johannes Radebe hug in emotional goodbye as Strictly tour ends

After months and months together, casually making history as the first same-sex couple to reach the final of Strictly Come Dancing, John Whaite and Johannes Radebe said their goodbyes with an emotionally packed hug outside London’s 02 Arena.
The Strictly Live Tour finally came to a close on Sunday, finally bringing the Strictly class of 2022’s journey to an end.
Strictly champs Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice won the most live shows, but John and Johannes did mange to steal the crown at Manchester.
However, John and Johannes achieved more than a Glitterball trophy could ever bestow as they proved that not only can same-sex dancing on the BBC series work, it can be magnificent.
Naturally, the farewell looked packed with emotion as the boys end the phenomenal journey which has meant so much to Strictly fans, particularly the LGBT community, who have been waiting to see a same-sex couple shine on the BBC series since it began.
While John and Johannes will be remembered for some of the most memorable dances in Strictly history – that finale showdance still plays in our heads on loop – it’s their friendship off the dance floor which has also been a total joy.
‘I have fallen in love with my art form again because of John,’ Johannes said in a recent interview with Hello.
‘The opportunity to be so creative with what we had to come up every week. I was trying to figure things out as I was going along.
‘Not once did he make me feel otherwise.
‘In my moments of doubt, John just stood by me and waited for me to figure it all out. And I can’t tell you that patience, I’m in love with the man. And I know he’s a married man – soon to be – but let me tell you something, people come into your life and you just don’t know how you’ve been doing without them this entire time.’
He continued: And that has been John for me, a really, really lovely lad. I can’t tell you, he’s the nicest person you’re ever gonna meet in your whole entire life.’
As for John, he now looks set to make the transition from baking, to dancing, to performing in London’s West End, confirming he is currently in talks with some theatre productions.
Johannes will be heading out on his first solo tour across the UK, titled Freedom, fusing African, Latin and classic dance styles for an epic new show.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
