John Cleese details ‘very different’ Fawlty Towers reboot as he slams backlash
Fawlty Towers: This Morning guest says ‘don’t ruin it’
At the start of the year, it was confirmed that the much-loved BBC show Fawlty Towers could be coming back to TV screens decades after ending.
Originally, the series only ran for four years from 1975 to 1979 but still remains one of the most successful sitcoms on British TV.
With news of its revival, fans were keen to see what hotel owner Basil Fawlty (played by John Cleese) has been up to over the past 40 years.
Although it looks as though the rebooted plot has divided opinions as John Cleese revealed earlier in May it starts with the death of Basil’s wife Sybil (Prunella Scales)
Speaking about the backlash on GB News with Camilla Tominey, the 83-year-old highlighted people are criticising something they have yet to see.
“The press tried to make it [Fawlty Towers] an albatross. I mean some of the press were so negative at the idea.
“I can’t remember, but I think it was The Guardian said it’s going to be bl**dy awful, which is a new form of criticism which is a critic criticising something before you have the slightest idea what it is.”
In the new series, John’s real-life daughter Camilla will also play his daughter in the show who is the result of an affair with a previous guest at the hotel.
Teasing what viewers can expect to see, the actor revealed it will be set in a different country.

“ll see something completely different.
