How did Mel Owen die in EastEnders?
There’ll be a sombre mood in Walford this week as residents gather for the funeral of beloved EastEnders character Mel Owen (Tamzin Outhwaite).
After two decades on Albert Square, actress Tamzin has bowed out of the soap in dramatic scenes that left fans with more questions than answers.
And Monday night’s show is set to see Lisa (Lucy Benjamin) – who was left devastated by her friend’s death – drop a bombshell at her funeral as she reveals the truth about the baby Sharon (Letitia Dean) is expecting.
But just how did Mel die, and was it an accident or did somebody kill her?
Here’s what you need to know about Mel’s untimely death.
How did Mel Owen die?
Desperate to divulge Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean)’s secret, Mel raced to the airport to reveal all to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), with her nemesis hot on her tail.
Prepared to spill the beans there and then, Mel phoned Billy Mitchell who was busy at Louise Mitchell (Tilly Keeper)’s birthday party at the club.
However before the phone connected, Mel’s vehicle collided with another sending her car careering off the road.
Sharon, having witnessed the horrific incident, prised Mel from the wreckage just moments before the vehicle burst into flames, sending the pair flying.
Mel, understandably shaken, began to hear the voice of Hunter and, determined to reunite with her dead son, attempted to head back to the wreckage.
She finally met her demise as she was hit by a large vehicle as a horrified Sharon looked on.
Who was responsible for Mel’s death?
While Sharon was there nobody was actually responsible, as Mel wandered in to the road of her own accord.
However that hasn’t stopped a distraught Lisa from trying to accuse Sharon of murdering her.
She also told Phil that he wasn’t the father of Sharon’s baby – leaving him pondering whether or not she had told the truth.
What will happen tonight? You’ll just have to keep watching to see how it all unfolds…
EastEnders continues Monday 2 December at 8pm on BBC One.
