Home and Away newcomer Peter Phelps’ – Baywatch fame and scammed out of cash

Peter Phelps is a newcomer in hit Aussie soap Home and Away, with the actor, singer and writer taking on the role of Gary Morrow.

But his new role in the beloved drama isn't his first Home and Away rodeo.

Peter actually began his H&A career in 2008 behind-the-scenes and then on-screen as Alan Henderson in 2012, with him returning at the end of last year as an entirely new character.

In the soap, the Sydney-born hunk, who shot to fame in Baywatch, plays Gary who is the foster father to Cash and Felicity Newman.

But away from his work on Home and Away, Peter started out as a heartthrob in Baywatch and has been conned out of money.

First and current Home & Away roles

Peter actually began working on Home and Away in 2008 when he he directed 20 episodes of the beloved soap opera.

But in 2012, he went from being behind the scenes to being on the screen as minor character Alan Henderson.

While playing the role of Alan, he was the on-screen father of Stu Henderson, who was played by Brenton Thwaites.

And then in 2022 he returned to the programme as Gary Morrow, who along with late wife Katherine were close friends of the Newmans – the biological parents of Felicity and Cash.

Despite taking on Felicity and Cash and being paternal figures after their father's suicide in 2006, the children never fully accepted Gary and Katherine.

So when Gary turned up to see his foster kids at the end of 2022, he didn't get the warmest welcome.

“They have a rocky history,” Jacqui Purvis (who plays Felicity) told TV Week at the time.

She went on: "She [Felicity] feels ambushed by him [Gary] and Cash," referring to how Cash invited Gary to his sister's wedding.

"She’d hoped Cash would support her decision to not see him, but instead, he forces her to face him," she added.

Concluding: "This drives a wedge between her and Cash.”

Baywatch fame

When Baywatch was all the rage, Peter portrayed the role of Trevor Cole, and when he first appeared on the show, he was a cocky and arrogant clubhouse lifeguard.

In the series, one of his boat parties left his then girlfriend fighting for her life, which made him realise how little he knew about saving lives.

Joining the Baywatch Rookie School when he first appeared in the drama series, Trevor redeemed himself from his past when he passed the course with flying colours.

While on the sizzling show, which starred Pamela Anderson, Peter's character looked like he might be embroiled in the beginnings of a romance.

A romance looked like it was blossoming with Jill Riley, but Peter left the show after Jill died from a shark attack.

Peter's character was the first male Australian Baywatch lifeguard on television, making him a history-maker.

Conned out of cash and financial ruin

In May 2015 Peter took to Facebook to say that his kids' future and his farm were "gone".

Eight years ago it was reported that Peter had lost more than $400,000AUD (£230,000) after falling victim to an investment adviser Brad Sherwin.

According to Fairfax, in 2015, around 300 self-funded retirees lost up to $27millionAUD (£15.5m) after investing with Brad's company Wickham Securities.

Taking to Facebook to vent about losing money, Peter wrote: "Superannuation stolen by bankrupt 'financial adviser' Brad Sherwin.

"Was property investing super … [and] the c*** frauds us.

"Kids future. Farm. Gone," he concluded in a defeated way.
