Hayley awkwardly forgets who Dr Alex is after refusing to kiss him on the show

The Love Island Christmas Special looks like it will be stuffed full of awkward moments if this sneak peek is any indication.

The cast and couples of the 2018 smash series are back – along with show host Caroline Flack – for a festive get together.

Love Island: The Christmas Reunion brought together 19 of the summer’s contestants – with the promise of romance, spills and thrills.

But it looks like Dr Alex George will be getting a fresh dose of embarrassment as one of his co-stars forgets he even exits – despite being sat a couple of seats away during a cast dinner.

Curly haired beauty Eyal Booker had a question for the group as he read out a quote from the summer series.

“Dumped Love Islander Kendall wants a date with hunk _ _ / _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _. He’s perfect,” Eyal read – leaving his co-stars stumped.

Offering some clues, the former singer added: “He’s got a title. He could potentially be upon us.”

The group then correctly guessed it was Dr Alex – only for Hayley Hughes to loudly declare: “Who’s Dr Alex George?”

The group erupted into laughter – with Alex looking a little hurt by the comment.

“Thanks Hayley. I’m literally sat right there. Not many seats down from her and she forgot completely who I was,” he said.

Hayley then tried to smooth over her mishap – but only made things worse.

“No, I didn’t mean… I thought that was like a professional doctor, like?” she offered – seemingly unaware that Alex is indeed a professional doctor.

Addressing the camera later, Hayley (who refused to kiss Alex during their time on the show) then tried to dig her way out of the hole she made for herself – only to end up sounding more than a few pine leaves short of a Christmas tree.

“It just sounds like royalty or something, but I don’t know because I don’t think a doctor is royalty,” the ditsy blonde said.

Love Island: The Christmas Reunion is on ITV2 on Monday 17 December at 9pm.
