Greatest Dancer insiders rubbish claims Cheryl’s been ‘sidelined from show’
Insiders have rubbished claims Cheryl has been "sidelined" from press campaigns for Greatest Dancer, after her single hit a low chart number.
Love Made Me Do It, Cheryl’s comeback single, has hit a low of No.77 in the charts after a pretty brutal backlash from X Factor fans after her performance.
But insiders have told The Sun this is reflecting in her role as a judge on the new dance show, with Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse taking centre stage in her stead.
The source said: "Cheryl has certainly had a string of bad luck recently and there’s a lot of grumbling behind the scenes that she’s going to have the same effect on The Greatest Dancer. All the publicity and focus of the show has been on her but now her big musical comeback has proved to be a flop, everyone’s worried they’ve put all their eggs in the wrong basket.
“Producers have decided they now want to quietly push Oti more into the spotlight.
"Unlike Cheryl, she has serious dance credentials and is genuinely loved by a lot of viewers following her success on Strictly. With the launch date just weeks away, producers are pretty stressed to say the least.”
But the BBC has rubbished these claims, and a Syco Entertainment spokesman has said: “All dance captains carry equal importance and value.”
An insider also spoke exclusively to MirrorOnline, saying: "Everyone is excited about this line up. Oti has been great but undoubtedly Cheryl is the biggest star on the show! She’s really taken Oti and Alesha under her wing and the girls all get on great. The channel is doing everything they can to make sure this new show is a hit”
Cheryl will be a judge alongside Oti and Glee star Matthew Morrison, with Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo on the presenting side for the new talent search, which launches on BBC1 on Saturday 5 January.
The series will contain eigh episodes and is set to air on Saturday nights on the network, with dancers from seven-70 performing a wide range of style, from Bollywood to tap and ballet.
Cheryl recently was hit by a further problem with her single when the song’s merch, a £45 cropped hoodie, had an embarrassing grammar mistake, reading "it was’nt my fault" rather than the correct grammar.
A BBC spokesperson said: “The Greatest Dancer is a celebration of dance and all three Dance Captains are a hugely important part of the show. Any suggestion that any individual is being overlooked is nonsense.”
The Greatest Dancer airs at 8pm on Saturday 5 January on BBC1.
