Grange Hill and The Bill actor George Armstrong dies aged 60
Former Grange Hill and The Bill actor George Armstrong has died aged 60.
The star, who played Alan Humphries, died on Tuesday after a battle with leukaemia, it has been reported.
Fans have paid tribute on social media, with one announcing: ‘I’ve just heard the very sad news that George Armstrong aka Alan Humphries passed away yesterday.
‘RIP George. A true Grange Hill legend xxxx.’
Another said: ‘That is so sad. He was a legend.’
‘A character from my childhood. Such sad news, thoughts with his family and Grange Hill friends,’ someone else said.
Another penned: ‘Way too soon. One of the great original characters who put the show on the map, as well as helping to light up the spin off Tucker’s Luck. RIP George.’
He then returned for three series of spin-off Tucker’s Luck in 1983.
Armstrong later went on to star as PC Driscoll in The Bill in 1989.
This was his last TV role, before going on to work as a technical theatre manager.
Armstrong’s first role had been as Hubert Lane in Just William, starring alongside EastEnders actress Bonnie Langford in 1977.
