Good Morning Britain star Pip Tomson has quit the ITV breakfast programme while taking a scathing swipe at the "Be Kind Brigade".

The 45-year-old TV star has instead taken up a new journalistic opportunity at rival programme GB News.

Having worked on GMTV in 2009, Daybreak in 2010 and later joining the likes of Kate Garraway, Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard as part of the GMB team in 2013, the news of the longstanding team member now jumping ship must have been tough for ITV chiefs to absorb.

After announcing her new role and after spending over a decade with the channel, questions began to mount with regards to Pip's motives behind the move to what is deemed a right-winged news outlet.

Curious fans bombarded the TV presenter to understand why she was turning her back on ITV.

In a frank and honest article Pip outlined her exact reasons for leaving the channel and gushed over her new role.

Without holding back her views, she candidly penned: "Here I am. A presenter and journalist – now at GB News – who's relishing the opportunity to challenge and hold to account the powerful types and offer a voice to those who want to be heard but are thoroughly disillusioned so don't bother to engage.

"I want to help change that and redress the balance, without fear or favour. I’m a people person which is why I became a journalist in the first place."

Pip admitted it wasn't an easy decision and at first she had been at loggerheads about the role given the "controversial" GB News label.

She continued: "I was also well aware of the flak directed at GB News.

"Much of it from those types who profess that they’re tolerant members of the 'Be Kind' brigade (yawn) but are actually some of the most intolerant people you could ever hope to meet if you don't profess to share their views."

When weighing up the options on the table, Pip also revealed that she was guided by one of GMB's "most famous broadcasters in the business" to take up the new presenting gig.

"I sought out the advice of some of the less tribal folk including one of the most famous broadcasters in the business.

"I don't want to name them but they've always been incredibly generous in terms of advice, feedback, reflections on the industry and how to deal with those delightful social media trolls.

"‘It's a no brainer,' came the answer. 'You’ve got to do it. It’s very exciting for you and a proper adventure'," explained Pip.

Another driving force for swaying the ITV exit had also been due to be the working hours.

Pip who is an early morning TV star will now be switching things up at GB News with an afternoon shift instead.
