Game of Thrones stars reunited in cast of ITV true crime thriller White House Farm – tracking Essex family’s brutal murder
GAME of Thrones stars are reuniting for ITV's true crime thriller White House Farm, based on the brutal murder of an Essex family.
The six-part series follows the real-life murder of Sheila Cafell, her 6-year-old twins and her parents, who were all killed at their farmhouse in 1985.
It was originally believed Sheila was responsible for the killings in a murder-suicide.
She had a history of mental health problems and was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
However, her brother Jeremy Bamber was arrested and is now serving a life sentence – one of the few people in the country who will never leave prison.
He maintains his innocence to this day.
The show is also based off Colin Caffell's book, In Search of the Rainbow's End: A Father's Story.
Colin was the husband of Sheila and father to their twins.
The starring roles are taken by Watership Down's Freddie Fox as Jeremy Bamber and Stephen Graham (Line of Duty) as the detective pursuing him.
There are a whole host of Game of Thrones actors in the show, with Mark Addy (Robert Baratheon), Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) and Mark Stanley (Grenn) all playing major parts.
Writer Kris Mrksa said: "This is an incredibly compelling true crime story, but it's the human dimension of these events that gripped my imagination, particularly after reading Colin Caffell's book.
"So much discussion of the case has focused on contested legal details, but I wanted to tell this story in a way that did justice to the devastating emotional truth of what happened."
In the real life case, Bamber claims to have received a call from his father to say Sheila had "gone berserk" with a gun, after which he alerted the police.
The prosecution argued that no such call took place and that Bamber murdered his family before placing the semi-automatic rifle in his sister's hands.
