Game of Thrones and Star Wars star joins Doctor Who in BBC cast shake-up | The Sun
DR Who is set to gain a brand new star member of the cast, and it turns out she's already a familiar face to the franchise.
Award-winning actress Indira Varma, who is best known for playing Ellaria Sand in the hit HBO franchise Game Of Thrones, will join the next series of Dr Who.
The 49-year-old actress first rose to prominence with her role in the 1996 Indian historical erotic romance film Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, which was first screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
She would also be familiar to fans of the time travelling franchise as she played the role of Suzie Costello in the Russell T Davies’ spin-off series, Torchwood.
But Indira is now set to step aboard the Tardis in her new mysterious role as the Duchess.
Speaking of joining Doctor Who, Indira exclaimed: "I’m thrilled to be in Doctor Who and particularly excited to be crossing cosmic paths with Ncuti, as the Doctor, and look forward to creating interplanetary mischief with him.

"I loved playing Suzie Costello for Russell T Davies in Torchwood so am thrilled to be entering this world again."
Meanwhile, executive producer, Russell T Davies hinted that the star will play a villain and will unleash "terror" on the world.
He said: "I’m overjoyed to be reunited with Indira after our Torchwood days, and this part is truly spectacular!
"A whole new audience will be hiding behind the settee when the Duchess unleashes her terror.’

This comes after she starred in another galactic project as the disillusioned Imperial officer from Mapuzo, Tala Durith, in the record breaking Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The star is also a celebrated stage actress, having won the Olivier Award for Liz Essendine in Present Laughter.
She's also starred in other major West End productions including the acclaimed Man and Superman and Jamie Lloyd’s production of Chekhov’s The Seagull.
Doctor Who will return to screens in November 2023 with three special episodes with David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor to coincide with the 60th anniversary.
Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa’s first episode as the Fifteenth Doctor will then air over the festive period later this year.
