Frankie Bridge reveals her 'guilt' over depression as her Saturdays bandmates struggled to understand
The star opened up about her mental health battle during an appearance on Lorraine earlier today.
Speaking out, 30-year-old Frankie explained that she always struggled with her mental health, but it was when she was still miserable despite finding success as a music artist that made her realise that something was seriously wrong.
Admitting to her "guilt", the mother-of-two said of her fame: "It was what I had always wanted and I think that's what made it worse.
"I felt so guilty that I still didn't feel happy in a situation where I knew I should be, and I think that's what turned the whole thing on its head because I thought something's not right here.
"I kept everything such a secret, and once I'd been to hospital I didn't feel it was a lie anymore.
"I could just be myself, and that's why talking is so important."
Frankie also praised her bandmates, Mollie King, Rochelle Humes, Una Healy, and Vanessa White, for supporting her when she was hospitalised – but admitted that they took some time to understand that she was suffering.
Confessing that she had hidden her battle for years, Frankie explained: "They were really understanding, especially when I was in hospital as they had to carry on without me, and it is hard when one of you is missing from the group.
"They did really well, but it took them a long time to understand it as well because I had kept it a secret."
Frankie's fans applauded the star over Christmas when she took to social media to reveal that she was struggling mentally with the festive holiday.
The singer was praised for her honesty as she shared a close-up picture of herself lying in bed to tell fans that she wasn't finding the lull between Christmas and New Year easy.
She wrote at the time: "So I know everyone is banging on about this whole Crombo-Limbo situation… but I’m genuinely struggling with it.
"I feel at a loss as to what I’m supposed to be doing… I can tell the boys are getting cabin fever… it’s a bit like the holiday blues and a Christmas come down all into one… but also the build up and suspense of New Years Eve… which then comes with the pressure of having the best night of the year!
"I want to work out because I know it will give me energy and make me feel mentally better… but I also want to lay in bed, ignore the world and eat biscuits all day… but I know that will make me feel even worse!"
Frankie – who shares sons Parker and Carter with husband Wayne Bridge – added that she wasn't really looking forward to her 30th birthday on January 14 because of how she is feeling.
The brunette beauty regularly speaks out about her depression battle and is an ambassador for mental health charity, Mind.
