First ‘Downton Abbey’ Movie Teaser Invites Fans Back to the Iconic Castle

AceShowbiz -“Downton Abbey” has just shared an early Christmas present for its fans. The first teaser for the “Downton Abbey” movie is here to get everyone nostalgic, just in time for the holiday season during which it usually released a special Christmas episode.

Not giving away any details of the storyline, the more-than-one-minute video takes fans back to the Crawley family’s home where the loyal servants are awaiting outside the castle. Some maids are preparing the bed and a guy, who is possibly a postman, is riding a motorcyle in the driveway to the house. It ends with an aerial view of the grandeur estate.

“Downton Abbey” TV series first aired on ITV in the U.K. in 2010, before airing on PBS in the U.S. since January 2011. The British period drama centers on the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants in the post-Edwardian era.

After it wrapped up with the sixth and final season in 2015, there were talks about a film. The movie was finally confirmed last July, with shooting kicking off in early September. The production wrapped up just a few weeks ago.

“Since the series ended, fans of ‘Downton’ have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter,” Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski previously said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople… in bringing back the world of ‘Downton’ to the big screen next September.”

Plot details are scarce, but Phyllis Logan, who played Mrs. Elsie Hughes, revealed earlier this year that the story would pick up two years from when the show left off. “We’ve gone on a couple of years but that’s all, not anymore,” the actress said, refusing to share more details.

Meanwhile, executive producer Gareth Neame teases, “We had to do everything that all the fans wanted, but we had to do something that was fresh and original. We wanted a kind of storyline and sense of scale and production value that exceeded even the very high production values the TV show was remembered for. On the big screen, it just had to look a little bit more lavish and a little bit bigger and better.”

Series creator Julian Fellowes writes the screenplay, while Michael Engler directs. Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Joanne Froggatt and Jim Carter are among stars confirmed to return for the movie adaptation.

“Downton Abbey” movie will hit U.S. theaters on September 19, 2019.
