CRAIG Doyle was overcome with emotion as he discussed Sinead O’Connor’s funeral on today's This Morning.

The Irish presenter, 52, fought back tears as he revealed his family live near Bray, where the singer was laid to rest.

The Nothing Compares 2 U singer was found dead at her flat in South East London on July 26, aged just 56.

Craig told how thousands of people lined the streets for Sinead'sfuneral, as Matthew Wright also struggled to talk about her death.

Josie Gibson was quick to comfort the pair as they discussed her legacy.

Reminiscing about the singer, Craig said: “An incredible talent, but she used it to say things that other people were scared to say, she spoke out when the church was quiet in Ireland, when the politicians were quiet in Ireland.

"She looked for justice for people, she looked for help for people who were impoverished. She was all about other people. A very, very special person."

Sinead was buried in Bray in her native Ireland yesterday after mourners were invited to line the streets for a "last goodbye".

Her cortege travelled along Bray seafront after a private funeral service attended by Bob Geldof and U2 star Bono.

Fans threw flowers on the hearse carrying Sinead's coffin as a Volkswagen camper van accompanying the procession played her music.

There was a round of applause as the cortege paused briefly at her former home, where she lived for 15 years, as mourners wept as they placed their hands on the hearse.

The service followed several vigils held for Sinead across Ireland and the UK in the wake of her tragic death.

Police were called to the singer's new apartment in London on the morning of July 26 following reports of an unresponsive woman.

Tragically Sinead couldn't be saved and was declared dead at the scene shortly after.

No medical cause has been given for her death, which is not being treated as suspicious by police.

The tragedy came just 18 months after her 17-year-old son Shane took his own life.
