Emmerdale’s Michael Parr and Isabel Hodgins split after three years together after he quit playing Ross Barton to break America

The couple called it a day a few months ago after Michael, who played Ross Barton, quit the ITV soap to try and crack America while Isabel (Victoria Sugden) has remained on the show.

A source said: "They drifted apart and felt it was better to be mates. He has been throwing himself into his social life and has just been on a lads' hol and she is focusing on work, they're both young and want to follow their dreams.

"They had a meaningful relationship and they'll remember the good times."

Isabel, Emmerdale’s longest-running actress, has played Victoria since she was 12.

She began secretly dating Michael, who joined Emmerdale in 2013, in real life a couple of years later.

The pair let the cat out of the bag on July 15, 2016, when each posted snaps from identical locations while on a romantic break in Paris.

Michael, 31, later posted a gushing post about Isabel to mark her birthday.

He wrote: "Happy 24th birthday to this little one. Who woulda thought that 5’2 (and a half) could pack so much love, devotion and attitude.

"Thank you for being the most wonderful and caring best friend a boy could ask for. Love you to the moon and back. X."

Michael left Emmerdale last year and moved to America this week in order to win a part across the pond.

He said previously of his plans: "My granddad fought in Vietnam and got based over in Warrington, England, met my nan, who was a Scouser, shipped them over to Brooklyn, because his family are from Brooklyn.

"When he was going round the airbases my mum was born in Oregon and my mum was born in Mississippi.

"I feel like I've had a big American influence in my life, obviously because my mum is American. I feel like it's always calling me. At some point I will [live there].

"I just think it'd be so cool to just maybe do a year in New York and maybe go for it in LA, see if I can get some work out there.

"I just want to be an actor that jobs. Like I pop up in an episode of this, an episode of that.

"I've no desire to be a huge superstar, I just want to act."
