Emmerdale spoilers: Heartache for Lydia Hart as Sam Dingle introduces a new family member

As the week kicks off Sam is feeling worried about his little sister Belle Dingle who is still rattled after the events of the previous week.

He thinks of ways to cheer Belle up and reckons it’s time there was another addition to the family.

A puzzled Lydia – played by Karen Blick – is let wondering what he means but is left even more flummoxed by his unromantic attitude as she tries to talk to him.

The next day all becomes clear when Sam arrives back at Wishing Well with a surprise for the ladies – a gorgeous little piglet names Spamela Hamderson.

Lydia doesn’t quite know what to say about the new arrival but – in private – she confesses to Belle that she misinterpreted Sam’s words.

The confusion is bound to have some effect on poor Lydia who confessed back in October that she’d previously suffered several miscarriages.

Lydia – who is engaged to Sam – left him concerned when she wasn’t able to bring herself to attend the funeral of baby Grace Kirk – Paddy Kirk and Chas Dingle’s daughter who died shortly after birth.

When he got back from the burial, he asked Lydia why she didn’t turn up, leading her to confess her painful secret.

She told Sam: "I've lost too many babies of my own to see Chas bury hers, I didn't carry mine to term – my two.

"Both were too fragile for this life. Steve [Lydia’s ex-husband] got me this – a charm for each of them to keep them close.

“I can't wear it, they're a awful, constant reminder of what I've lost. I know my miscarriages are nothing compared to what Chas has been through, but I still feel her loss. Time doesn't heal, we just get better at living with pain.”
