Emmerdale and Coronation Street pulled from screens this week in ITV shake-up | The Sun

SOAPS have been thrown into chaos this week with two major events prompting ITV to change its regular schedule.

The broadcaster has altered both Emmerdale and Coronation Street's time slots with Thursday being a big day in soapland.

The week began with TV fans being able to catch up with their favourite programs as neither of their slots had been altered on Monday (September 4).

Tuesday's long-awaited National Television Awards allowed soap fans to be treated to an hour-long instalment of the Yorkshire-based drama, which caused upheaval for ITV Evening News.

This evening, things will remain unaltered with both Emmerdale and Corrie airing at both 7.30pm and 8pm.

But with ITV due to air coverage of the Rugby World Cup 2023 beginning this Friday (September 8), fans will have to prepare themselves for more chaos ahead.

Friday's trip to the Weatherfield cobbles has been pushed back to this Thursday (September 7).

However, the Manchester-based drama will be aired post-watershed for the first time in a long while, from 9pm until 10pm.

To top it all off, and as mentioned before, fans will have to go without their hour-long Emmerdale instalment, which they've grown accustomed to every Thursday.

This paves the way for a highly frustrating evening for soap viewers as both Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been scrapped altogether on Friday evening.

Friday, September 15, will feature another game between New Zealand and Namibia in the same time slot.

TV shake-ups have been frequent in recent months, forcing Emmerdale and Coronation Street viewers to adapt to a last-minute schedule.

The former soap is usually aired weeknights from 7.30pm for a half-hour episode with an hour-long instalment every Thursday, as mentioned above.

Corrie, on the other hand, airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm.
