EastEnders viewers warned ‘not to adjust their TVs’ amid football drama

EastEnders viewers were warned ‘not to adjust their TVs’ after the soap was taken over by football.

Friday night’s episode was full of ball action as Mick Carter and Mitch Baker coached the kids before their big match.

They used bar stools as cones during an impromptu training session before a big match in the middle of the Square.

Late night football is usually responsible for taking the soap off-air, but it became part of the show on Friday.

Warning viewers, the official EastEnders twitter account tweeted: "Do not adjust your sets, you have not accidentally tuned into Match Of The Day."

When the mini bus failed to turn up, after knocking down Hayley Slater, half the Square got involved with the kick around.

Mick and Mitch picked teams for the big match, which featured the kids and some of the adults.

One viewer joked that the soap would turn into Danny Dyer film The Football Factory if Mick continued to coach the kids.

Some EastEnders fans were loving the football storyline.

One tweeted: "Thank goodness there’s finally been a laugh in Eastenders, love the football match"

Another added: "I love Mick as a football trainer!"

However, others were not big supporters of the ball action.

One viewer said: "For the love of god #EastEnders if you want to keep or try & get new viewers please scrap this ridiculous football coach storyline!!! I’m literally now recording it and then fast forwarding those scenes!"

"I don’t watch #Eastenders for football storylines," added another.

*EastEnders continues on Monday on BBC One at 8pm
