EastEnders fans are praising the BBC for their superb portrayal of Lola Pearce’s death as the character is killed off in tonight’s episode (May 31)
Viewers tuned into the landmark episode as the long-standing character finally succumbed to her terminal brain cancer diagnosis, which saw black and white scenes pan towards her house as a storm poured down on the square.
“This opening scene is so detailed – the zoom into the House the weather all set at the backdrop of night. Attention to detail in this episode is everthing #EastEnders,” gushed one fan.

“Lola gets the Dark start & rightly so tonight’s episode is gonna be good but very sad.”
Fans also admitted to being emotional as major cast members said their goodbyes.
“phenomenal acting from the entire cast tonight. I’m in bits.”
Got the tissues ready I’m sobbing!,” said another.
Elsewhere, Jack, Whitney, Rocky, Denise, and others to gather for a lock-in. Together, they reflected on life, loss, and the tragic nature of Lola's terminal illness.
Kathy and Callum entered Lola's bedroom and bid farewell, assuring her they would take care of Lexi on her behalf.
At the last moment, Phil couldn't handle the situation and hastily departed without saying goodbye, making his way to Sharon to discuss his emotions.
The show was fun of touching tributes, including a reworked theme tune and the sun shining through the window as the storm cleared when Lola took her lats breath.
Jay was heard during his last conversations with Lola talking about what animal she would come back as, telling her she’d be a fox as she was foxy, sassy and gorgeous.
The final clip of the episode showed a fox walking across the square.
“#EastEnders was so beautiful but sad tonight, amazing acting from the actors. proud of them all including Danielle Harold who plays Lola Pearce… she will be missed #GoodbyeLola,” one fan shared.
“Always watched it always will – because of these episodes. The best, devastating but brilliant,” penned a second.
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
