EastEnders legend returns as a family crisis explodes

EastEnders legend Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) has finally returned to Albert Square, and he’s already playing marriage counsellor to Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and husband Jack Branning (Scott Maslen).

It is safe to say that Patrick returned to complete chaos. With Kim (Tameka Empson) in prison and Denise and Jack at each other’s throats, the family had totally fallen apart.

Jack and Denise were mid row when Patrick knocked at the door, with Denise at the point of suggesting divorce.

Patrick’s arrival did little to soften the tense atmosphere, with Jack deciding to head over to the Queen Vic to finish his work.

The topic of conversation soon switched from Kim’s predicament to Denise’s marriage, with Denise admitting that Jack would do anything to get out of the house.

Reluctantly, she opened up to Patrick about her affair with Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara), which had been the catalyst to their marriage problems.

Determined to help fix things, Patrick dropped into the pub for a chat with Jack, where he laid out a few home truths.

He pointed out that no one enters a marriage with the intention of straying, so Denise must have felt pretty unloved to have sought validation elsewhere.

He urged Jack not to place all the blame on Denise and consider the part he played in their marriage break down.

Thoughtful, Jack admitted that he had been somewhat distracted by his kids, leaving Denise feeling shut out as he tried to fix their problems alone.

When Jack admitted that he couldn’t shake the anger he felt over her betrayal, Patrick encouraged him to let the love he still has for her push that anger aside.

As Patrick urged him to fix his marriage, Jack tearfully admitted that he didn’t know where to start, but soon got an idea when Patrick pointed out that actions speak louder than words.

With Denise having been beside herself with worry about her sister, Jack pulled a few strings to organise a meeting between them at the prison.

As they waited for Kim to arrive, Jack made it clear to his wife that he still loved her, and was serious about trying to make a go of things.

Are Jack and Denise finally back on track, or will Patrick have to work even more magic?
