EastEnders fans in stitches after Alfie pays for champagne lunch with a £20 note

If you are looking for a cheap meal deal for the new year, then the Queen Vic in Albert Square is the place to go after it was revealed that a bottomless champagne lunch will only set you back 20 quid.

Fans of the BBC soap were in stitches when Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) was able to settle his bill for what appeared to be a huge family pub lunch with just on £20 note, when the champers alone would’ve been more expensive, without the food on top.

And while he was actually just paying for a round of drinks, £20 is still a very good deal for London!

It was quite a gesture from the hard-up salesman, as he looked to celebrate his estranged wife Kat’s birthday alongside the rest of the Slater family.

Of course, there was a little drama to precede it as Alfie found that his bank card was declined when he went to pay.

The panic was short lived though as it seemed a £20 note was enough to please landlord Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) when settling up.

Viewers of the BBC soap were quick to comment on social media after watching the transaction.

One had a theory as to why Alfie’s card was declined, after pointing out that paying contactless would never had been accepted for the amount that bountiful meal.

They tweeted: "Wtf EastEnders – they’re all talking about some bizarre wedding accident and meanwhile Alfie is trying to pay contactless for a full pub lunch? Surely over the £30 limit?"

Another wanted to make a beeline for Walford: "I’ve decided I am moving to Walford! Alfie managed to pay for 12 lunches and endless champagne with a £20 note!"

An insider told The Sun that, "The Queen Vic must be the cheapest pub in the UK, let alone London. No wonder it’s full at all times of day.”

Those sort of prices are enough to bring plenty of cheer in the new year and could be the start of a plethora of champagne lunches at the Queen Vic, as residents look to cash in.
