Dancing On Ice’s Saira Khan left ‘crying and shaking’ in fear before performance

Saira Khan has revealed she was left "shaking and crying" when asked to perform for her fellow Dancing On Ice contestants.

The reality TV star said she had a "mini panic attack" for the first time in her life when she was asked to do a simple routine in front of her fellow celebrities, just to show off how much she had learned in two months.

On Loose Women she revealed her skating partner, Mark Hanretty, had no idea how to help her because it was "so unlike her," and ex-Strictly star James Jordan noticed she was "welling up," and went over to help.

She told the panel of Kaye Adams, Stacey Solomon and Carol McGiffin: "It’s been quite interesting, quite stressful, but I’ve found out a lot about myself this week.

"I’ve been training for a couple of months now, I have a beautiful partner who’s very kind, very gentle, but it’s coming up to the show.

"First week back, off we go, and we had to demonstrate what we’re doing in front of some of the other celebrities… and at that point, for the first time in my life, I experienced anxiety and I think I had a mini panic attack."

Her colleagues on the show revealed that this was not usual for her, saying they couldn’t believe something like that happened to her.

Saira continued: "I didn’t realise what was happening, I got myself so worked up… also a lot of them are better than me… in the past when people have said, ‘I’m anxious,’ I’d say, ‘Just get a grip, get on with it.’

"It was the fear of making a fool of myself, knowing that everyone else was better than me, and feeling judged… I had to sit down, my heart was going, I was sweating, I was shaking and Mark genuinely didn’t know what to do.

"James Jordan could see I was welling up."

But she did admit she was able to carry on and did perform, after giving herself a little pep talk.

She said: "I did go out and do it! I just said [to myself,] ‘Come on!’"

At that, Carol exclaimed that this was "the Saira we know" and she felt better after performing for everyone.

Dancing On Ice stars on Sunday 6th January at 6pm on ITV, and Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
