Corrie pictures confirm major wedding drama for Paul and Billy ahead of death
Filming is underway for Coronation Street’s first ever gay wedding as Billy Mayhew and Paul Foreman prepare to tie the knot.
Cast members of the ITV soap including Daniel Brocklebank and Peter Ash, who play Billy and Paul respectively, were spotted on-location shooting the upcoming scenes.
Both stars donned suits for what promises to be a monumental moment for the long-running serial drama, with the ceremony being the show’s first same-sex wedding that will presumably go ahead.
Billy and Paul, as viewers know, recently reunited after a number of years apart, with happiness finally on the cards for them as they agreed to give their relationship another go.
But there was soon heartbreak in store as Paul was diagnosed with motor neurone disease after a trip to the doctors due to hand issues which prevented him from working.
He had been under the impression that an accident he was involved in previously was the reason why he’d been unable to work, but the neurologist confirmed that he has MND, which came as a huge shock.
There is currently no cure for MND, which means that this storyline will ultimately end in Paul’s death, and an exit from the show for Peter Ash.
‘I’ll be sad to leave the show,’ Peter said when the story was first revealed. ‘It’s been such an amazing job, I’ve met fantastic people.’
Paul, meanwhile, initially kept his diagnosis a secret, but he ultimately told boyfriend Billy, who has supported him every step of the way.
The two became engaged earlier this week, after Paul, inspired by something Shelly from the support group said, asked his partner for help in ending his own life when the time comes.
Billy was horrified, believing that Paul was going to pop the question, refusing to assist. Paul, however, later changed his mind on ending his own life, with the two agreeing to get married, with Paul keen to spend the rest of his life with soulmate Billy.
Planning for the big day was subsequently set in motion and, with filming having already commenced, viewers can expect to see these scenes on-screen within the next few months.
Other cast members spotted during shooting include Harriet Bibby, who plays Summer Spellman, as well as Todd Grimshaw star Gareth Pierce and Channique Sterling-Brown who portrays Dee Dee Bailey.

Looks like it’s going to be a wedding to remember!
While there will ultimately be more heartbreak down the line, the question is: will the wedding day be a joyous one?
