Coronation Street to recast role as actress quits ITV soap after 11 years

Corrie: Tyrone Dobbs SMACKS daughter Ruby

Coronation Street bosses have recast the role of Ruby Dobbs as actress Macy Alabi has left the cobbles.

The young star has played the daughter of Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) since her birth in 2012, meaning she’s been part of the ITV soap for 11 years.

Although she briefly shared the role of Ruby alongside Grace Hanrahan for six months when they were babies, Macy has been the sole actress for over a decade.

Speaking about her decision to leave, a source told The Sun: “Macy’s starting senior school soon so wants to focus on her studies.”

Some of the last scenes featuring Macy was when she said goodbye to her stepmum Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) who left Weatherfield for a job opportunity in Norwich.

Express.co.uk has contacted ITV about reports of the actress’ exit.

In upcoming scenes, fans will get to see the young actress Billie Naylor take over from Macy as she’s involved in a heated storyline with sister Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan).

Official spoilers for the ITV soap reveal the two sisters are battling it out to try and land the leading role in Glenda Shuttleworth’s (Jodie Prenger) Little Big Shotz summer spectacular.

As Hope makes it clear she’s expecting to get the role she wants, she confidently rehearses for the solo at home in front of her sister.

However, things take an unexpected turn when Glenda reveals at the community centre that Ruby has got the lead part.

Hope’s left reeling when she learns that instead of being centre stage, she’ll be Ruby’s backing dancer along with two other kids.

As Ruby is thrilled, her sister is clearly unimpressed as a sibling rivalry begins.

Will Hope, the daughter of serial killer John Stape (Graeme Hawley) enact revenge on Ruby for getting the part she wanted?

However, as Ruby is the daughter of soap villain Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede), will she follow in her mother’s footsteps and fight back?

Over the years, fans have seen Hope show a spiteful side as she grew obsessed with learning more about her father.

Speaking on Loose Women earlier this year, Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod revealed Hope won’t be going down the same troubled path as viewers are used to seeing.

He said: “We thought actually we’ve done some very dark and twisted things with that character, and okay, that will still be part of her, but for the next 12 months we’re going to do normal pre-teen stuff.

“We’re going to be building a friendship with her and Sam that will verge on a very innocent pre-teen romance a little bit and they try to navigate those waters.

“It will always have a Hope twist on it because she’s maybe wired a bit differently than most kids her age… but we’ll see a more down-to-earth grounded side of her.”

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
