Coronation Street legend 'returns three years after quitting soap'

In a shock return, one of Coronation Street’s most loved characters is coming back to the long-running soap.

Despite leaving in 2020, she kept an eye on the show, even voicing her opinion on plot points back in April.

Now, after a three-year break, Lucy Fallon will reportedly be reprising her role as Bethany Platt and coming back to Weatherfield.

Bethany ended up leaving the town to take a magazine internship in London while actress Lucy took time away to raise a family and pursue other work.

The 27-year-old is rumoured to begin filming in the next few months, with her first episodes back airing ‘after Christmas’.

Lucy starred in the soap from 2015 until 2020, winning multiple awards for her storyline around grooming.

Her leave from Coronation Street coincided with her meeting partner Ryan Ledson, who she now has a baby boy with.

Lucy’s new baby Sonny Jude was born in January this year but the mum is ready to jump back into Corrie after her time away.

She is still good friends with on-screen mum Tina O’Brien, 39, and Colson Smith, 24, who plays Craig Tinker.

‘She was destined for big things and everyone was sad to see her go but the door was always going to be left open for someone of her calibre and popularity,’ a source told The Sun.

‘Bosses reached out to her a few weeks ago about the possibility of coming back, and told her everything they’d planned for Bethany if she agreed.’

They added that she is balancing her return with being a new mum but is looking forward to filming again.

‘Everyone is very excited.

‘They were really keen to get her back,’ the source concluded.
