Coronation Street fans left sickened by ‘distressing’ dog abuse scenes
Coronation Street fans have been left appalled by the soap's dramatic new violent dog abuse storyline.
On Wednesday night's episode (December 6), thug Terry Fensley – played by Jamie Foster – was seen abusing his dog. The scenes are part of a harrowing new storyline that will see Evelyn Plummer (Dame Maureen Lipman) try to shut down the vile dangerous practice of puppy farming.
But fans were left distressed by the vile dog abuse scenes when Evelyn told a man off for kicking his dog. During the episode Evelyn spotted a man hurting his dog and ended up rowing with him.

As Roy Cropper came outside his cafe to see what all the commotion in the street was about she told him to start filming the man as she pelted him with mint imperials in an effort to stop him hurting the little dog. But as the thug went to attack Evelyn, and threaten the OAP and her partner Roy, her daughter Cassie (Claire Sweeney) came out of the cafe and put a stop to him.
Cassie told him that if he tried anything more like that she’d throw scalding coffee in his face and then deal with him herself, which was enough to send the coward running. However before he went he made a point of hurting his dog some more as he kicked his dog again after throwing her into the van, then driving off.
One viewer was upset by the scene, writing: "Extremely distressing using those dog sounds. There's so much cruelty I try my best to avoid the constant barrage of adverts and now you're subjecting us to this s**t when we just want escapism."
Others backed Coronation Street for shining a light on the issue. A viewer wrote: "Evelyn giving that nasty bloke what for, poor dog…" Another said: "Nice one Evelyn. Now boot him in the nuts."
Coronation Street bosses have worked with the RSPCA on the hard hitting emotional storyline which will see Evelyn and Cassie team up to tackle puppy farmers. Producer Iain MacLeod said: “It was hugely important to us to work with the RSPCA on this storyline, both in terms of the accuracy of the on-screen narrative and also the welfare of the animals on set during filming."
He added: “It is a really important story to tell, but it was also vital to make sure it was fun for the actors’ canine co-stars – and as all our behind-the-scenes footage shows, it certainly was!”
