Coronation Street fans furious over Angie Appleton's 'random' exit
The accountant – who is played by actress Victoria Ekanoye in the ITV soap – decided to take a job back in South Africa and leave Weatherfield for good, but her exit scene consisted of her saying goodbye to Mary and jumping in a cab.
Her husband Jude had his final scenes last week when Mary discovered him still lying in Blackpool and pretending to be a surgeon called Ken Barlow.
Viewers couldn't believe the brief scene and goodbye was all Angie got despite being a central part of the show for two years.
One fan tweeted: "Bye bye Angie. Sad to see you go. I was hoping you'd get cosy with Adam. #corrie".
A second wrote: "They bought Angie a new case to make sure she goes #coronationstreet".
Another added: "Aww so sorry we say goodbye to Angie from coronation street…all she needed was a decent storyline. Wish her well in all she does on her next journey!"
A fifth said: "Getting rid of characters like Angie, why? She had potential, far better than the deadwood the writers hold on to. #corrie".
A sixth said: "As a character, Angie had miles more longevity than Jude ever had. It’s just a shame that Angie’s journey has ended way before it’s time. #Corrie".
Another added: "Poor Mary @itvcorrie the Corrie writers give & then they take away ? Bye Angie & George xx @VictoriaEkanoye".
A Coronation Street spokeswoman confirmed the scene was Angie's last appearance on the soap.
However an insider has revealed the door has been left open for a potential return down the line.
The source said: "Angie's time on the cobbles came to a natural end.
"Without her husband on the street there was no reason for her to stay in Weatherfield.
"Everyone's sad to see Victoria go but it's not the end. Mary is still George's nanny and you never know when she could need her back."
