CLAIRE Foy broke down in tears as she discovered a horrific family death on Who Do You Think You Are?
The Crown actress was the latest famous face to delve into their family history on the hit BBC series.
At one point, Claire, 39, travelled to Carlisle where her great grandparents Henry and Maria Stimpson lived.
Henry – a soldier – had died while off-duty during a cross-country race, and the actress wanted to find out more about what happened.
Heading to the river where the accident occurred, Claire read an old newspaper article detailing how her great-grandfather had drowned.
She read: "The drag caught hold of something at the bottom, it proved to be the jersey of one of the missing men.

"The body, on being set loose from the sticks in which it had been entangled, rose to the surface."
Claire's voice choked with emotion and she started to well up as she continued: "By the clothing and the red jersey and knickerbockers it was identified as Private Stimpson, one of the two married men who had drowned."
The star cried and wiped her eyes as she processed the words, while stood at the exact point he had been found all those years ago.
She continued to read: "There were no marks upon it except for a slight scratch near the mouth, supposed to have been caused by the poor fellow biting his lip whilst struggling to save himself.”

Claire continued to cry as she reflected on his death, before saying: "I think it's even sadder because it's 400 yards from where they went in.
"Maybe if someone had just run down, they might have seen, but obviously, nobody did."
