Chelsea Handler sidekick Chuy Bravo died of heart attack, late star’s reps reveal – The Sun
CHELSEA Lately star Chuy Bravo died of a heart attack, the late actor's rep said in a press release on Monday.
It was also revealed he had been rushed to the hospital due to a Gastronintestinal Hemorrhage (GI Bleed) on December 14 at around 1:30 p.m.
The press release read: "After complications, he suffered an Acute Myocardial Infarction that led to his passing.
"Bravo’s funeral services took place today and [he] will be cremated. His family has confirmed he will be brought back to Los Angeles (no date has been set) for a memorial service."
It concluded: "Bravo’s family is devastated as they cope with his sudden loss.
"They are overwhelmed with the thoughts and prayers they have received and send their appreciation."
An Acute Myocardial Infarction is the medical term for a heart attack, which is when the heart's blood flow is suddenly cut off, causing tissue damage and even death.
It had been previously reported that the 63-year-old Chuy had been hospitalized on Saturday in Mexico City and kept overnight after gastric pains.
His relatives, who he had been staying with for the past month, said he passed away on Sunday.
The diminutive star, who moved from Mexico to the US at 15, was the beloved sidekick to Chelsea Handler on her E! talk show from 2007 until 2014.
Chelsea wrote a loving tribute to Chuy – who she hadn't seen since moving to Netflix five years ago – after his passing.
She wrote on social media: "I loved this nugget in a big way, and I took great pleasure in how many people loved him as much as I did and do.
"Chuy Bravo gave us so much laughter and I’ll never forget the sound of his laughter coming from his office into mine.
"Or his 'business calls' with his 'business manager,' or his shoe rack with all his children-sized shoes."
Chuy was born Jesús Melgoza in Tangancícuaro, Michoacán in Mexico – and lived in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles at the time of his death.
In a heartbreaking final interview before his death, Chuy thanked Chelsea for her recent birthday wishes.
He told Radar Online: "I have been out of town in Mexico. Wow. Thank her very much. She loves me."
But he tragically revealed he and Chelsea had not seen each other since their show ended five years ago.
He said: "We have both been busy trying to do our thing that we haven't seen each other since.
"But we text, we call each other. She called me last week actually before my birthday."
He added: "I love her. She is my dearest.
"I would definitely accept a job if she offered it to me."
Chuy was forced to file for bankruptcy last year, with his case closing in October.
The actor – who had roles in The Honeymooners and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End – overcame prostate cancer in 2012.
