Casualty reveals historic episode with big twist to mark 75 years of the NHS
Casualty will air a special episode of the medical drama this month to mark the NHS’ 75th anniversary.
The show will broadcast a special standalone episode that highlights the teamwork across the medical services shown every day in order to save lives.
Taking a break from the usual format for the first time ever, the episode will feature commentary from real-life medical professionals.
Alongside the usual characters from Holby’s ED, the NHS workers will talk about the importance of collaboration and the investment that goes into every single day to ensure patients are cared for.
The episode will focus on a motorbike rider called Amartya, who is involved in a devastating collision with life threatening injuries. The story will showcase the efforts made across the emergency medical services to save him; from ambulance call handlers, to nurses, paramedics, doctors, HEMS teams, surgeons, and beyond.
Casualty is often seen highlighting the current strain on the NHS. Recently, staff in the ED dealt with the loss of Nurse Robyn Miller (Amanda Henderson), who died after being involved in a car crash.
At the time, many of Robyn’s friends argued that if Jacob (Charles Venn) wasn’t forced to make tough decisions about ambulances waiting outside of the hospital, – which only occurred as a result of the ongoing crisis within the service – she would still be alive.
The episode of Casualty marking 75 years of the NHS will air on July 15.
