Botched’s Terry Dubrow sheds light on ‘not embarrassing’ patients during filming

Botched: Terry Dubrow highlights the dangers of BBLs

Plastic surgeon Terry Dubrow has lifted the lid on how patients are able to be open about their botched results in front of cameras.

Hayu’s hit reality series Botched sees Terry and Dr Paul Nassif consult with people who have been left with undesired results from previous cosmetic procedures.

With viewers four episodes into season eight, the surgeons have treated a failed Brazilian butt lift, a woman who was born with intestines on the outside of her body, and a nose job.

Together they aim to restore their patients’ confidence through their skills and expertise.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Terry highlighted the ways they encourage people to open up about their hidden and embarrassing results.

The 64-year-old stated: “When we meet with them, we have a very frank and open conversation to let them know that we’re going to provide a supportive environment for them to discuss whatever they want to discuss.

“We will not probe, we will not embarrass and most importantly, we will not judge so they know that we are here to support them.”

He continued: “We’re not here to either sensationalise them and certainly not here to embarrass them.

“And they can tell right away we’re all in when we tackle these patients, we put our reputations on the line.”

Speaking on the patients’ experience, Terry explained: “The last thing we want them to have is a negative experience because there’s a psychological component to healing.

“If we can get a good supportive relationship going with them we maximise the chance that they will not only have a positive experience.

“But they will heal what we’re trying to do to them because we take them apart before we put them together again.”

The surgeon concluded: “When you take apart an area that’s been operated on before and has reduced blood supply and scarring, you take on a lot of risk and you’d ask a lot of the body.”

The episode titled Hot Lava Booty saw the professional help Destiny, who contracted a flesh-eating infection after undergoing Brazillian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery.

As the infection ate the tissue in her left buttock, Dubrow admitted he was left to do an operation he “doesn’t do very much,” and put “an implant in.”

Although she expressed her uncertainty and fear of contracting another infection Destiny granted him permission to insert a buttock implant.

Thankfully, her asymmetrical posterior was fixed by Dubrow as he was also able to transfer tissue from her lower back down into her buttocks.

Botched season 8 continues on Thursdays on Hayu in the UK.
