Below Deck star Ashton Pienaar has moved to a completely different career

Below Deck: Chef Dave on his ‘weirdest experience’

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Below Deck.

Below Deck star Ashton Pienaar was a firm favourite when he first joined the Bravo reality series but things turned south later on – so what has he been up to since the show?

Ashton made his Below Deck debut in season six back in 2018 when he was employed as a deckhand, working alongside the likes of Rhylee Gerber, Tyler Rowland and Ross Inia.

Bravo fans seemed to take a shine to him in season six but it was far from an easy series as he had a near-brush with death.

As filming for Below Deck was underway, Ashton was caught in a tow line and dragged into the sea.

Thankfully, he was rescued by a cameraman and when he returned for season seven, something had changed.

Employed as a bosun, it didn’t take long for fans to notice that he was drinking heavily on the nights out.

He was also targeting chief stew Kate Chastain throughout the season and lashed out at her during an evening out with the rest of the crew.

Things got so heated between them, and Ashton ended up punching the inside of the van door as they travelled back to their yacht, Valor.

Ashton wasn’t asked to return to Below Beck and reportedly Captain Lee Rosbach said he wouldn’t work with him again.

Where is Below Deck star Ashton Pienaar now?

Since leaving Below Deck behind, Ashton has well and truly changed his life around.

He started up his fitness coaching company AP Elite where, according to his Instagram page, he works as a trainer to help people eat healthier and keep focused when it comes to exercise.

Fans may remember him appearing on the season seven reunion when Ashton proved to be very remorseful about the way he treated Kate and deckhand Rhylee.

He realised after watching himself back that the issues began when he was drinking heavily and so he decided to sober up.

In 2021, the fitness fanatic marked his one-year of sobriety, writing on social media: “Sometimes, in life, situations happen that make you take a step back and assess everything.”

He stated that since giving up alcohol, Ashton is now “a brother to look up to and a son to be proud of.”

And it seems that his love life has also greatly improved, with the South African native with girlfriend Sarah McAlpine Cooper.

It isn’t clear how the couple met but they are well and truly loved up as he revealed in September last year that they were engaged.

So will any of his fellow Below Deck stars get an invitation to the big day?

Below Deck is available to watch on Bravo.
