BBC sex pics scandal star ‘chatted on Instagram with teen using love hearts’
The BBC star at the centre of a sex pic scandal reportedly started a chat with a teenage follower from his Instagram account. The exchange is said to have used hearts and kisses.
According to The Sun, the individual said they had been contacted by the unnamed star when they were 17. In an interview with the newspaper, they said: “Looking back now it does seem creepy because he was messaging me when I was still at school.
“In light of everything now, I feel shocked because as a broadcaster it is a name everyone would trust. I had no reason to think it was anything beyond that at that time.”
The Sun says it is handing its full dossier of the allegations about the star to the BBC investigators. It reportedly involves signed sword statements from the individual.
The first message sent by the star, The Sun reports, came in October 2018. He reportedly sent a heart emoji completely out of the blue.
The teen had allegedly followed the presenter months earlier, and was said to be shocked to receive a message from such a well known BBC star.
They told The Sun: “I was surprised he had messaged me out of the blue but was excited as I knew who he was. He sent a love heart emoji to me and I was taken aback.
“Looking back now at my reply I can tell I did not think anything of it because of my age. I was just thinking of it innocently because I had a keen interest in their line of work.
“I replied to the love-heart emoji he sent and asked how it was going at the BBC. He replied saying it was good and he used a kiss [x] at the end of his message.
“I did think it was a little strange that he used a kiss at the end but, ultimately, I was not reading into these messages in that way and so did not think more about it at the time.”
Following the teenager’s reply, The Sun said the presenter went back with another reply and continued the conversation.
The individual, who is now 22, holds down a successful job. They continued: “After my reply, he then asked me if I was OK. After he sent it he sent me another love heart emoji.
“I asked why he was asking after me and he said he was just being polite and put another kiss at the end.”
The conversation is said to have continued on an intermittent basis. The young person would sporadically message the television veteran.
The individual said they felt the star’s tone of messages changed when they were “not flirtatious back,” stopping using heart emojis and adding kisses.
Yesterday The Sun claimed the star had contacted another individual on a dating app. It says they sent “abusive” messages after they started speaking to the individual on the app.
The BBC was investigating the allegations around the star but says it had paused its probe while the Metropolitan Police looks into the claims to see if a criminal allegation has been made.
The Met Police said: “We have asked the BBC to pause its own investigation while we continue our assessment to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed.
“The assessment is being led by detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command and follows a virtual meeting with representatives from the BBC on the morning of Monday, 10 July.
“There remains no police investigation at this time.”
The BBC added: “The BBC has been asked to pause its investigations into the allegations while the police scope future work.
“The BBC has processes and protocols for receiving information and managing complaints when they are first made. We always take these matters extremely seriously and seek to manage them with the appropriate duty of care.
“The events of recent days have shown how complex and challenging these kinds of cases can be and how vital it is that they are handled with the utmost diligence and care.
“There will, of course, be lessons to be learned following this exercise.”
