While it's not clear why she was missing from the show, Carol's absence from BBC Breakfast comes as she opened up on marrying her toyboy fiancé Steve Randall.

The TV star previously revealed the pair had got engaged in May last year during a live broadcast.

Carol has since revealed that she never thought she would get married again.

Speaking to Closer, she said: "My fiance is very handsome. He's very kind and caring and he makes me laugh.

"Steve's a good cook too. He's all I could ever want In my eyes he's perfect," she continued.

"We were friends before we became romantically involved so we knew each other quite well before we started dating."

"It's so lovely. Who would have thought that at my ripe old age, I'd be getting married again? I certainly didn't."

According to MailOnline, Steve, 47, is a dad-of-one who once completed the world's toughest marathon.

Carol was previously married to former cricket plater Jimmy Kirkwood.

She has remained tight-lipped about why their relationship broke down, but admitted when their divorce was finalised in 2012, she broke down backstage at BBC Breakfast.

She explained at the time:: "In a funny way though, that helped with the healing process.

"I put my grief into a compartment which I kept separate from my work, otherwise I’d have ended up in a puddle of tears. Work kept me going."
