Amanda Klein Joins Kapital Entertainment As Development Executive
Amanda Klein has joined Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment as a senior development executive. Reporting to Executive Producer Dana Honor, she will be working on new development.
Klein most recently served as Executive Director of Development & Production for Sony’s digital network, Crackle, where she worked on developing new projects as well as overseeing current series including Snatch, Tribes, and Heart of Darkness. Klein has previously held positions as an executive and a producer in both Film & TV at Pariah, Primal Pictures, October Films, and Miramax Films.
“Amanda is incredibly smart and has a great eye for material,” Honor said. “She has a wide range of experience that makes her a perfect fit for us and we are thrilled to have her join our team.”
Kapital’s development group under Klein includes Jessie Abbott, Kevin Marco and Patrick Munroe.
Kapital, launched by Kaplan 9.5 years ago as a self-financed production venture, has focused on building out its infrastructure over the past year with a number of key hires, including Sherie Hernandez as head of casting and Sandra Ortiz as head of business.
Rounding out the company’s core staff is eight-year Kapital veteran Cailey Gabler, the company’s operating officer.
Kapital, which serves as both producer and financier, currently has nine series on the air, comedy American Housewife, now in its third season, and freshman drama A Million Little Things, on ABC; comedies Life In Pieces, heading into Season 4, and freshmen The Neighborhood and Fam on CBS; The Chi on Showtime and Tell Me a Story on CBS All Access, both renewed for a second season, and Divorce on HBO and Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix, both going to a third season.
Kapital has financed four projects to date, all of which have gone to series, Tell Me a Story, A Million Little Things, which just got the post-Grey’s Anatomy slot, the upcoming Fam, which debuts Thursday, as well as CBS’ 9JKL.
The company has a slew of big commitments this development season, including a series commitment at CBS for a multi-camera comedy starring Patricia Heaton, a presentation order for an animated comedy at Fox as well as several put pilot commitments. Many of the company’s projects are with frequent creative collaborators — writers, directors and actors who have done multiple Kapital shows.
