Alert: The First Trailer with Meryl Streep in ‘Big Little Lies’ Is Here
In the midst of all the Golden Globes action tonight, HBO released a sneak peek of its TV shows returning in 2019. Included in the action-packed lineup was a first look at the highly-anticipated Season 2 of Big Little Lies—and yes, it included a Meryl Streep cameo.
The short teaser video shows the women of Monterey—Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz), and Renata (Laura Dern)—in a police lineup. In the clip, they’re still wearing their Audrey Hepburn-inspired costumes from the fateful party that ended Season 1.
Stealing the spotlight, however, is the debut of Meryl Streep’s character Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Celeste’s deceased husband Perry. In the short snippet, she demands to know what happened the night of the party (and Perry’s death) while speaking to Witherspoon’s character, Madeline. In just three seconds, I can tell you that Meryl is about to win all the awards.
The official premiere date for Season 2 of Big Little Lies has yet to be announced, though Nicole Kidman hinted it would be sometime in June while speaking to Bravo‘s Andy Cohen.
Like the first season, Season 2 will be co-produced by Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. According to HBO, the second season will explore the “malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode … the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
While waiting for all of that drama to go down, please enjoy this photo of the cast members bowling together until then.
