Wolves ‘must pay £44m for loanee Matheus Cunha as he meets conditions for permanent transfer by playing just 3 GAMES’ | The Sun

WOLVES will pay £44million for loanee Matheus Cunha after the Brazilian met the conditions for a permanent transfer after playing just THREE games.

The 23-year-old joined in January from Atletico Madrid on a loan with an obligation to buy.

Manager Julen Lopetegui started using his new signing straight away, bringing him off the bench three times, once in the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

And according to journalist Vene Casagrande, those three appearances were enough to meet the clause to permanently buy Cunha.

Wolves will now pay Atletico £44m in full for the versatile attacker.

The move materialising already may be music to Cunha's ears, with the Brazil international leaving Atletico in explosive fashion.

Cunha's father, Carmelo, slammed legendary Atletico boss Diego Simeone before his son's departure.

Carmelo, in comments to Globo Esporte, slated the Argentine coach's formation and tactics.

He said: "With Simeone's system, there's no way a striker can be successful. It's very difficult."

Cunha said on the move in December: "I’m excited to play in the Premier League, to play in Wolverhampton.

"And I think the most important point is that I’m happy like a kid.

"[Lopetegui’s] a big coach, he has a big mentality.”

The same could possibly be said for club record signing Joao Felix, who has joined Chelsea on a six-month loan.

However, Felix's start to life hasn't gone to plan as the Portugal international was sent off against Fulham on his debut.
