Wednesday racing tips: Wednesday longshots to fill your pockets at Kempton from Jack Keene

Spring, and the return of proper racing, is just around the corner, while there is some cracking action at Kempton on Wednesday to keep us Flat fans happy.

The first one that has caught my eye is LIEUTENANT CONDE (1.50) in the opener.

The Hughie Morrison-trained three-year-old was last of four in a tactical contest over 7f at Lingfield on Saturday.

He was totally unsuited by the way that race was run, though it's not actually bad form as the winner looks a horse going places.

He drops in class today and should get a much stronger gallop to aim at, while the step up to 1m looks a big plus.

Make sure you set aside some dough for a punt on GALACTIC SPIRIT (3.25) in the feature race on the card.

Marco Botti's lightly-raced four-year-old is returning from a 278-day lay-off, but the Italian stallion is more than capable of getting them fit first time out.

It's fair to say his form is mixed – the second and third from his maiden victory at Wolves turned out to be absolute boats, while the fourth has won at Group 3 level. It's a funny old game.

On his last outing at Newcastle in May he ran with the choke out and did well to finish fourth in a decent little race.

Jack Out The Box – Wednesday's each-way picks

1.50 Kempton: Lieutenant Conde 'Dropped in class and step up to 1m here should suit'

3.25 Kempton: Galactic Spirit 'Well-bred sort who should relish this longer trip – could be well-handicapped'

He has undergone a gelding op since then and he steps up to 1m3f for the first time on Wednesday afternoon.

It's a move which should suit on pedigree, being a half-brother to Group 1-winning middle-distance star Gitano Hernando and smart stayers Battersea and Sizzler.

In my opinion, his opening mark of 78 could greatly underestimate his ability and I'm fascinated to see what he can do.
