Vonn shows off injuries after horror crash… alongside raw bum of USA team-mate Ross

Ski queen Vonn grinned and bared it as she posted a photo of her injured face, next to the badly-bruised bruised buttock of fellow American Laurenne Ross.

Downhill legend Vonn – in her penultimate race before retiring – straddled a gate in a high-speed, mid-air tumble in the super-G.

The Olympic golden girl got a huge ovation from the crowd as she recovered from the collision well enough to tentatively continue and cross the finishing line in Sweden.

Vonn, 34, then used Instagram to reveal a close-up of her bruised cheek – albeit a far less spectacular-looking injury than the bashed-up, red-and-purple-striped hip and bottom of 30-year-old Ross.

She wrote below the image: "The aftermath of our crashes from yesterday. Can’t wait to see what color they turn tomorrow!'"

Vonn could certainly have been excused for more colourful language 24 hours earlier when she ended up in the safety net following her crash.

She said afterwards: "I feel like I've been hit by an 18-wheeler.

"I got the wind knocked out of me but it's OK. I wasn't expecting it."

Vonn's mishap eased the route to victory for compatriot Mikaela Shiffrin.

Vonn, the most successful women's skier ever, is second on the list for World Cup wins on 82, four behind Ingemar Stenmark.

But  she admitted: "The last two races probably won't be my farewell season I wanted – being able to break Stenmark's record."

Nonetheless, Vonn's roll-call of glory on the slopes since 2001 includes one Olympic crown and two World titles.

Ross, meanwhile, will hope her problems are all behind her once her raw, sore rump heals.
