UFC release spine-tingling trailer for Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 2 with promise of 'get ready for war' at UFC 257

AS if the return of Conor McGregor wasn't already a big deal, UFC have upped the stakes with a spine-tingling trailer.

The Notorious is set to face Dustin Poirier in the first major MMA event of 2021.

The duo face off at UFC 257 on January 23.

It will be McGregor's first fight for a year, with his last bout against Donald Cerrone – a 40 second destruction – coming in January this year.

Since then, the Irishman announced his retirement from UFC but, as expected, is now back.

And according to the UFC, fight fans should "get ready for war".

That's how they are billing the rematch between the two stars in theirtrailer for the fight, which was aired during UFC 256.

It shows footage from their original meeting back in 2014, recapping all the talk before the fight and then McGregor's impressive victory in the octagon.

It goes on to show their journey's since then, with McGregor becoming a two-weight champion and Poirier proving himself among the very best in the lightweight division.

The importance of the bout has been ramped up with speculation the winner will get a shot at the belt.

Khabib Nurmagomedov currently still holds it, but if he stands firm over his shock retirement, UFC chief Dana White will set up a contest to battle for the vacant strap.

The winner of the UFC 257 headliner will be in pole position to compete for it, potentially against Justin Gaethje who Khabib beat in his final fight.
