Trevor Bauer somehow stumbles into Mike Francesa feud

The always-confrontational Mike Francesa is now at odds with… Trevor Bauer?

With the July 31 MLB trade deadline inching closer, it’s no secret that the Yankees are in the market for a starting pitcher. Bauer, the Indians mercurial right-hander, has been one of the names floated around to join the Yankees’ struggling rotation with his contract set to expire after this season.

The WFAN host wants no part of him.

“I’m afraid of Bauer,” Francesa said Thursday on WFAN. “First of all, I don’t think the Indians are trading Bauer. Secondly, I’m afraid of him in New York. A guy like that, who says a lot of crazy things, I don’t think he’s a comfortable fit in our town. There’s some guys that are gonna come in here and have a problem and I think he can easily be one of them.

“He’s a nutcase. You ever hear him talk? He’s a fool. That would be terrible in New York. That won’t work here. He’s in Cleveland. That would be awful. Absolutely awful… I don’t like that at all. I don’t like Bauer at all. They like Bauer better than [Madison] Bumgarner? They’re out of their minds.”

The twitter account Funhouse, which is dedicated to posting Francesa’s outlandish takes, posted a video of the 65-year-old radio legend’s rant, tagging Bauer in the process.

In typical fashion, the Indians ace fired back.

“Lol nice… tag me in this looking to start drama and I’m the headcase and nutjob and whatever else is said in this video?” Bauer tweeted. “That’s hilarious! Traditional media for you… this is why it’s dying.

This is not the 28-year-old’s first Twitter feud. He has dubbed himself “one of the most scientific baseball players in MLB” on the site before, accused the Houston Astros’ pitching staff of using an illegal substance to increase spin rate, gone back-and-forth with followers about racism, global warming and biased journalism, blocked followers during games and scrolled through a college student’s account to dig up dirt long after she stopped responding, all because she said he was her “least favorite person in sports.”

Away from Twitter, Bauer’s 2016 ALCS start was pushed back from Game 2 to Game 3 after he almost sliced off his pinky while playing with a drone.

“I do love the logo in the background tho! If only he looked like that in real life! [sic]” Bauer concluded.

The logo, which is prominently displayed behind Francesa, shows his face without a mouth. As he will be looking for a new contract this offseason, maybe Bauer can take a lesson from that image.
