Sean Cox smiles alongside Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush as Liverpool and Irish legends play charity game

SEAN Cox smiles as he is joined by Liverpool icons Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush as well as Ireland boss Mick McCarthy at tonight's charity match at the Aviva Stadium.

The 53-year-old, from Meath, Ireland, suffered a severe bleed in his brain following an attack at Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final clash against AS Roma in April,  2018.

And tonight a Liverpool Legends team took on an Ireland Legends XI with all funds raised going to the Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust.

The Reds fan appeared in good spirits ahead of kick-off as he was pictured alongside Liverpool royalty in Dalglish and Rush along with club CEO Peter Moore and Ireland manager McCarthy.

The star studded exhibition match in Dublin featured Liverpool greats such as Sami Hyypia, Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler facing off against Ireland legends like Robbie Keane, Ray Houghton and Ronnie Whelan.

The match was shown live on LFCTV and anyone who wishes to donate to Sean's rehabilitation fund, which has so far raised over £1 million, can do so here.

Earlier this week, Cox appeared in a video message thanking people for their support ahead of tonight's star studded match.

The Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust wrote on Twitter: "Bake sale, bag pack or bingo.

"If you are one of the thousands who organised/attended a fundraiser to #supportsean Sean Cox has this message for you x."

Sean's wife Martina said tonight's game would be the first time he was out in public since the attack, and hoped that one he would be able to return to Anfield.

She said: "He's going to be there which is great, I didn't think it would happen a couple of months ago.

“He regularly went to Anfield. I’m sure Liverpool Football Club would love to have him there, because he never got in that day."
