Scotland 10-17 England rugby LIVE SCORE: Marcus Smith try puts Red Rose ahead in Calcutta Cup – Six Nations 2022 latest

ENGLAND are ahead against Scotland in the Six Nations.

The Red Rose had the better of the opening stages, taking the lead through a Marcus Smith penalty.

But they fell asleep at the restart allowing debutant Ben White, who was on as a head injury assessment replacement, to score the opening try of the match for the Scots.

Smith then replied with another penalty, but Finn Russell replied with a penalty of his own on the stroke of half time.

However, it's first blood to England in the first half as a close range Smith penalty saw the Red Rose move back within a point.

And Smith then popped up with England's first try as they took the lead in Edinburgh.

      HT: Scotland 10 England 6

It is important Scotland stop giving away needless penalties.

The first-half saw them gift England six in total.

Other than that, more of that solid defence will be the call.

      HT: Scotland 10 England 6

We thought this would be a test of this young England side but not in the way we envisaged.

Converting possession into points was the biggest challenge they could not seem to deal with in the first half.

Scotland need to come out of the traps and see if they can get the first try of the half to really test the mental strength of this England team.

      Scotland 7 England 6

      36. Both teams will be content with their first half displays.

Scotland had to absorb a lot of England probing with kicks and attacking in open play before they were able to strike themselves.

To go in ahead will be a good foundation to build on.
