Ruthless Lampard will drop Chelsea stars from first team if they don’t work hard in training – The Sun
RUTHLESS Frank Lampard will drop Chelsea stars from the first team if they don’t work hard in training.
That’s according to a Derby source who claims the tactician demands 100 per cent from his players behind the scenes before giving them a chance on the pitch.
The Athletic reports Lampard is taking a hard-line approach with his Chelsea aces after replacing Maurizio Sarri over the summer.
The Blues legend got the gig after impressing during his first season as a manager with Derby County.
And a source at the club has warned Chelsea players that they need to be at their very best on the training field if they want a chance on match day.
The Derby source told The Athletic: “He [Lampard] would simply refuse to play anyone who trained badly.
“We saw players who would be in the team and playing well but then they had a bad week in training and he would drop them.
“Expect the same at Chelsea. We thought it was because of his own approach as a player, everyone knows how dedicated he was, the fittest man ever, grabbing balls after training to improve.”
Lampard has put his faith in a number of young players already this term, including Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham.
Meanwhile, the likes of Michy Batshuayi, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Davide Zappacosta are yet to feature under Super Frank.
But with a word of advice from a Derby source in their ear, the misfit trio know what they must do to get a chance under their new gaffer.
