Romelu Lukaku flies to Italy for Inter Milan medical as Man Utd accept £76.5m transfer offer for AWOL striker – The Sun
ROMELU LUKAKU heads to Inter Milan today after Manchester United booted out the rebel striker.
United have sealed a £76.5million deal after fining him TWICE over failing to show for training and a tweet.
Lukaku, 26, will fly to Italy to complete a medical and join up with Antonio Conte’s squad, with Inter coughing up £64.5m up front and the rest in add-ons.
United and Inter reopened talks on Wednesday after Lukaku went to Brussels to train with Anderlecht after a bust-up with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Belgian striker believed he had permission to train away from club’s Carrington HQ but was punished for spending two days with Anderlecht.
United also clamped down on him for a tweet showing results of recorded speeds of players during training.
But his fines, costing two weeks’ wages and a smaller punishment for his social-media post, is a small price to pay as he now has his dream move.
Lukaku had his heart set on the San Siro but a bid of £54m was rejected.
That led to competition from Juventus and Napoli but Inter finally made a breakthrough yesterday when Lukaku’s agent Federico Pastorello travelled to London for talks.
Lukaku has made it clear he wants to leave United.
And his bitter exit accelerated at the weekend when he spoke with Solskjaer on Sunday during a 17-minute meeting.
United have been looking at Mario Mandzukic since he was offered by Juve in a swap for Lukaku.
They could make a late move for a striker today with ex-Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente on the market and Lyon’s Moussa Dembele a long-term target.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are working on a £110m bid for Paul Pogba even though they know it probably will not be enough to get him.
