Patrick Ewing hints at being ‘secret’ weapon for Knicks at draft lottery

There’s no longer a chance for any “frozen envelope” conspiracies, but perhaps the Knicks will call on Patrick Ewing as their good luck charm at the upcoming NBA draft lottery.

The former Knicks star and current Georgetown coach said Thursday that he’s asked “all the time” about Duke’s Zion Williamson or pending free agent Kevin Durant coming to New York. But did the Hall of Fame center also hint that he will represent the Knicks — who have a 14 percent chance at the first overall pick — at the lottery on May 14?

“There’s a secret that’s going to come out in a couple of weeks, but I’m not going to say it yet,” Ewing said on his Georgetown radio show, via 247Sports. “They’ll see when it happens.”

Knicks coach David Fizdale had Ewing address the team before a preseason game in Washington in October, making him one of several former franchise legends to do so over the course of the season.

In the league’s first draft lottery in 1985, the Knicks wound up with the first pick overall and the chance to draft Ewing out of Georgetown. One of the most infamous conspiracy theories in sports alleges that the NBA fixed the results of the lottery to ensure Ewing would wind up in New York.
