No Urban, no problem as Ohio State delivers strong recruiting class for new coach Ryan Day

Potential Ohio State recruits weren’t shy about asking how the Buckeyes would be different in the post-Urban Meyer era.

“That was the No. 1 question,” soon-to-be head coach Ryan Day said. “Most people had their phones out, and they would look at them, and scroll through all the questions they had.”

Day, who is replacing Meyer after the Rose Bowl, must have had the right answers because the Buckeyes delivered a strong group on his opening signing day.

“I think this class would rank top-five nationally when grading the individual players,” Day said.

When asked about his vision for the Buckeyes moving forward, Day said he told recruits: “We think we have the most comprehensive program, A to Z, in the country and the infrastructure is here. The plan is not to change that. The plan is not to come in and blow all of that up. There’s a reason why there has been so much success here in the past. We want to keep that going.”

The class includes five-star lineman Harry Miller from Buford, Georgia, and five-star wide receiver Garrett Wilson from Austin, Texas.

“(Wilson) is as talented of a young man I’ve been around in terms of ball skill, speed, changing direction,” Day said. “He could be a Division I basketball player if he wanted to be.”

Day also picked up a big win when five-star defensive line prospect Zach Harrison stay in state picked Ohio State over archrival Michigan.

“When you look at someone who runs a 10.8-hundred meter dash at his size, and the potential he has, all you think of is the Bosas of the world, some of the top defensive ends in all of America,” Day said.
