Nabil Fekir hurt by knee injury ‘lies’ as he opens up on failed Liverpool transfer – The Sun

NABIL FEKIR has revealed he was hurt by "lies" about the alleged knee injury that saw his dream move to Liverpool fall apart.

The French winger, 26, was all set to move to Anfield in the summer of 2018, but the Reds pulled the plug, citing fears over his knee.

Fekir had been a shining light at Lyon throughout the 2017-18 season – and was even part of France's 2018 World Cup winning squad in Russia.

Now at Real Betis after a severe dip in form last term, Fekir has opened up about his difficult year since his move to Champions League winners Liverpool collapsed.

Fekir revealed: “We were coming out of an exceptional year, where we were crowned world champions.

"There were a lot [of reasons for my dip in form].

"It’s not really due to the failed transfer [to Liverpool], because it’s part of life. It was written like that.

NO REGRETS

“I tried not to pay attention to it. Yes, it was affecting my mind, even though it was unconscious and I kept telling myself that it was part of destiny.

“But that is not the reason for my average season. Today, I still think about it. But without any regret.”

Fekir went on to say how the "lies" hurt him, adding: “It touched me because there was an incredible amount of lies told about it.

“Everything that has been said about my family in particular. It hurt them, as it hurt me. Especially when you know that what was broadcast was wrong.

“But when you are a good person in life, you always end up being happy and calm. And I am happy and calm today."

Fekir joined La Liga club Real Betis this summer in an £18million deal – a fraction of the £52m fee Liverpool were thought to have agreed.

But the French star appears to be getting back to his best having scored twice in his first two league games in Spain.
