Maple Leafs’ Nazem Kadri suspended for remainder of first round vs. Bruins for cross-check

Toronto Maple Leafs center Nazem Kadri has been suspended for the remainder of the first round – potentially five games – for his cross-check on Boston Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk during Game 2 of their first-round series.

Kadri had been suspended four times previously, the last coming in the 2018 playoffs when he was suspended three games for boarding then-Boston forward Tommy Wingels.

Other Kadri suspensions include: three games for a hit to the head against Nicklas Backstrom (2013), four games for an illegal hit to the head against Matt Fraser (2015) and four games for cross-checking Luke Glendening.

He has also been fined three times.

"This is not a hockey play," the NHL's Department of Player Safety said of Kadri's cross-check in the video explaining the suspension. Kadri's history was also noted as a factor to suspend him for the duration

Suspending Kadri for the series, rather than a set number of games, is similar to a suspension that Raffi Torres picked up in the 2013 playoffs.

The Maple Leafs-Bruins series is tied 1-1 with Game 3 on Monday night.
