Man Utd's five heaviest Premier League defeats ever revealed… with ALL of them coming in October after Liverpool loss
OCTOBER is the spookiest month of the year – especially if you're a Manchester United fan.
Forget Halloween, Red Devils supporters have an entirely different reason to be terrified.
After all, every single one of their five heaviest defeats in Premier League history have come in October.
Most-recently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were battered 5-0 by fiercest rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
The game at Old Trafford was the fifth time since the start of the 1992-93 season United have slipped to defeat by a five-goal margin.
We take a look at all five…
Oct 20, 1996 – Newcastle 5-0 MAN UTD
A REVENGE game, if ever you've seen one…
Just months earlier, Newcastle were cruelly denied a first Premier League title at United's expense after a late-season collapse – including the thrilling 4-3 defeat against Liverpool.
Kevin Keegan's side won just five of their final 13 games to finish four points behind United.
In their first competitive game of 1996-97, United annihilated the Magpies 4-0 in the Charity Shield.
But just two months later, Newcastle had their revenge by smashing Sir Alex Ferguson's squad 5-0 at St James' Park.
Darren Peacock and David Ginola both scored before the break to put the hosts in control.
Les Ferdinand scored just after the hour mark, before Alan Shearer truly killed the game off ten minutes later, with Philippe Albert also finding the net before full-time.

Oct 3, 1999 – Chelsea 5-0 MAN UTD
UNITED went into the game at Stamford Bridge in superb form – having not lost a Premier League game since December 1998, a run spanning 29 games.
But the reigning champions trailed within 30 seconds in West London after Gus Poyet gave the Blues an early lead.
Blunder-prone goalkeeper Massimo Taibi rushed off his line, clattered into Denis Irwin and allowed the Uruguayan to nod the ball into an empty net from Dan Petrescu's cross.
Chris Sutton made it 2-0 just 15 minutes later – his only Prem goal for Chelsea – before Nicky Butt was shown a straight red for lashing out at Dennis Wise following a heavy challenge.
Wise is claimed to have said, 'that hurt didn’t it, you ginger b*****d' – with Butt kneeing him in the chest in anger.
Poyet and Jody Morris scored either side of a Henning Berg own goal in the second half as the game ended 5-0.
Taibi never played for United again.
Oct 23, 2011 – MAN UTD 1-6 Man City
IT was barely believable. The 'noisy neighbours' – yet to win a Prem title – arrived at Old Trafford and ripped the reigning champions to shreds.
Mario Balotelli – who was in the news for setting fireworks off in his own bathroom – scored the opener before lifting his top to reveal his infamous 'why always me?' undershirt.
With the score only 1-0 to Roberto Mancini's side at half-time, United were still well in the game – until Jonny Evans was sent off just two minutes into the second period for a clumsy foul on Balotelli.
From there, United imploded as Balotelli and Aguero scored to make it 3-0.
Darren Fletcher grabbed a consolation with ten minutes to play – before City really rubbed salt into the wound with three goals from the 89th minute to the final whistle.
Edin Dzeko scored two, with David Silva the other.
Fergie later called the demolition job an 'embarrassment'.
The defeat was their biggest home loss since 1955, when they lost 5-0.. also to City.
It was also the first time United had conceded six times at Old Trafford since losing 6-0 to Huddersfield and 7-4 to Newcastle within four days of each other in 1930.
Oct 4, 2020 – MAN UTD 1-6 Tottenham
THINGS started so well for United in their game against Spurs a year ago.
Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot in just the second minute of the clash after Davinson Sanchez bundled Anthony Martial to the ground inside his own area.
Martial was sent off just 20 minutes later after taking a swipe at Erik Lamela, with United 2-1 down at that stage after Tanguy Ndombele and Son Heung-min put Jose Mourinho's side in front with just seven minutes on the clock.
Harry Kane and Son both scored before half-time as a shellshocked United went into the break 4-1 down – and a man down.
Serge Aurier scored early in the second half before Kane grabbed his second from the spot to complete a 6-1 rout.
After the humiliation Solskjaer said: "It's very embarrassing, it hurt all the players. It hurts me as the manager. It's my worst day ever."
Oct 24, 2021 – MAN UTD 0-5 Liverpool
IF losing to Spurs by five goals caused a stir, losing to arch-rivals Liverpool was utterly cataclysmic.
Ten years and a day on from their 6-1 loss at home to City, United's defence was utterly woeful straight from the off as Naby Keita put Liverpool 1-0 within five minutes.
Diogo Jota made it 2-0 with 13 minutes on the clock before Mohamed Salah scored twice before the break as the Red Devils were booed off the pitch by a 73,000-strong crowd.
Salah completed his hat-trick early in the second-half, with Paul Pogba – only sent on at half-time – was shown a straight red for a studs-up lunge on Keita on the hour-mark.
Solskjaer is now clinging to his job, with reports on Monday suggesting the club were 'considering sacking' the Norwegian.
It's now believed the ex-Cardiff chief will cling on to his job.. for now, at least.
