Real say no to Ronaldo return

Real Madrid are the latest club to turn down the opportunity to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese legend has made it clear that he wishes to leave Manchester United in order to compete in the Champions League.

However, the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all passed on the 37-year-old.

And now former club Real have followed suit, according to Marca.

Ronaldo is the Spanish giants record scorer, having netted an astonishing 450 goals during nine years at the Bernabeu.

    Good Morning, Manchester United fans

Bruno Fernandes says United should let Cristiano Ronaldo leave if he wants to and it's claimed a Frenkie de Jong deal is all in place.

Fernandes urged the Red Devils to respect team-mate Ronaldo's wishes.

It comes as "everything is ready" for United to sign Barcelona midfielder De Jong for £63million – IF he finally agrees to move.

But the Holland star has been reluctant to leave the Spanish giants and it was even claimed last night that, should he depart, the 25-year-old would prefer to join Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Youri Tielemans is being increasingly tipped to consider joining United, despite previous claims the Arsenal target had no interest in such a move

Erik ten Hag’s arrival as Old Trafford boss this summer dramatically upped the chances of the Leicester midfielder opting for the Red Devils.

United reportedly want Ajax winger Antony – whether or not Ronaldo stays.

But the Brazilian's £59million asking price would also be a problem, especially if they are banking on landing De Jong.

Atletico Madrid are said to have rejected the chance to sign Ronaldo.

Spanish radio station Cope claim Atletico chief Miguel Angel Gil Marin met Ron’s agent Jorge Mendes but decided any deal might be too expensive.

Phillips: My Leeds 'loyalty' meant i joined City, not Utd

Manchester City new-boy   Kalvin   Phillips says there was NO chance of him joining rivals United, writes MARTIN BLACKBURN.

The £42million signing, 26, confirmed interest arrived from Old Trafford when it became clear he might leave Leeds.

However, his strong connection with the Whites meant he could not consider a move to their bitter foes.

Phillips, dubbed the Yorkshire Pirlo, smiled when asked if a summer switch to Manchester United was an option — and stressed: “No, there was never any chance of me going there.

“You know my loyalty to Leeds, my family as well, they're all Leeds fans.

“I was honoured by United wanting me, such a big team – one of the biggest teams in the world.

“But no, I had to stay loyal to Leeds and choose to go to the other side of Manchester.”

Asked if it was unusual to take such a stance, he said: "I don't know, it's just the way I am, the way I think and the way I'll always be.

“I want to be loyal to the people who've given me the biggest opportunity in the world.

“Leeds were the first team to sign me, I made sure that was one of the main things I'd do."

      De Jong would 'prefer Chelsea'

Frenkie de Jong would rather join Chelsea than Manchester United, according to reports in Spain.

      Fernandes: I don’t know Ron’s thinking

Bruno Fernandes admitted he is in the dark over Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to exit Manchester United – and what the club will do.

Ronaldo was the club’s 24-goal leading scorer last term and new boss Erik ten Hag has insisted he wants him to stay.

Fernandes said: “Obviously Cristiano was our top scorer last season, he added goals to us, but obviously it’s not on me.

“It’s the club that has to make the choices and Cristiano makes his own choice.

“As I said, I don’t know what’s going on in his head, if he wants to leave, it’s all about news. I didn’t ask them that.”

Ten Hag said this week that he does not know when the player will join up with the squad even when they return to Manchester.

But he is ready to build his team around him if he stays.

Man City new boy Kalvin would 'never' join United

New Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips says he would "never" have signed for neighbours United.

But the Leeds old boy stressed he was honoured the Red Devils showed interest.

The strong rivalry between Leedsand United would would have made it difficult for the England star – and Elland Road fans – to accept such a move.

      Neym your price

Neymar looks set to stay put at PSG this summer, ending months of speculation regarding the forward’s future.

That’s according to bookmakers Sky Bet, who’ve slapped 1/20 odds for the Brazilian to stay in the French capital, with Man City the next likely destination at 10/1.

There have been strong rumours regarding the Brazilian’s future all summer, with a move to Chelsea or a return to Barcelona the most likely destinations.

But it now seems clear that the £200million man will continue his stay in France, with his contract that still has three years left on it.

The winger has 160 goals and assists in his 140 games for PSG and has helped them to four league titles and six other domestic titles.

However, the club are still yet to win the Champions League trophy that their big spending owners are desperate for despite possessing one of the most star studded teams in world football.

Chelsea were 4/1 to favourites to sign the winger not even two weeks ago but Sky Bet have already lengthened the odds for the Brazilian to move to West London to 16/1.

Ron's rep Mendes heads super-agent list

Cristiano Ronaldo’s representative Jorge Mendes tops a list of money-making super-agents – averaging £779,087 per deal.

Research from OLBG puts the Portuguese agent ahead of German Volker Struth, who averages £347,584 and represents Chelsea striker Timo Werner.

But Mendes is way out on top, with wantaway Manchester United legend Ronaldo joined on his list of 139 clients by fellow Portuguese superstars like Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva.

Ronaldo has been valued at around £34million, with £72m-rated Man City playmaker Silva the most valuable according to Transfermarkt.

Mendes takes a 10.03% cut on all deals, earning him close to £63m from £626m worth of contracts.

Struth’s most valuable client is Germany star Werner, who has hinted this week he is frustrated at not being an automatic choice at Stamford Bridge.

British agent Jonathan Barnett comes third on the list, averaging £164,633 per deal but having by far the most number of clients, including Jack Grealish, Gareth Bale, Saul Niguez, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jordan Pickford.

It comes amid increasing talk of Manchester United preparing to enter the hunt for Belgium ace Tielemans.

      Fernandes: Respect Cristiano's decision

Bruno Fernandes say Manchester United must respect Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision if he wants to leave, writes NEIL CUSTIS.

Fernandes has been in touch with his fellow Portuguese international since he pulled out the club’s pre-season tour citing ‘family reasons’.

Ronaldo wants out but has not yet had the offer he wants from a club he believes can compete for the Champions League next season.

Fernandes said: “I don’t want to be involved in that, obviously we have to respect the decision of everyone.

“I don’t know what Cristiano said to the club, to the manager, I don’t know what’s going into his head, but we have to respect his space.

“The only thing I asked Cristiano, when he didn’t turn up, was if everything was okay with the family, he told me what was going on, that’s it and nothing more.”

3 signs Erik's masterplan is already working

LET'S be clear from the start, we are only three matches into pre-season, write LEE SCOTT and CHRIS DARWEN.

It's far too early to draw any conclusions about Manchester United's chances to perform towards the top of the Premier League in the upcoming campaign.

But from Erik ten Hag's three games we can start to look for insights into what we might expect this season from a tactical point of view – and work out who he likes and who he really does not.

When Ten Hag was linked with the Manchester United job, there was talk around what fans could expect of him tactically.

The truth was though that whilst he was at Ajax he was actually very versatile in his approach and in the types of players that he wanted to play in different positions.

Take the "No9" role for example. At Ajax Ten Hag used ex-Southampton star Dusan Tadic as a false 9 and former West Ham ace Sebastien Haller as more of a target style forward.

What we can say with some certainty is that we are likely to see Manchester United line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

With Cristiano Ronaldo missing from United's tour, Anthony Martial has been given a chance to prove himself as the lone striker.

Meanwhile Bruno Fernandes is free to operate behind the striker in the "No10" position that, er, Christian Eriksen played so well for Brentford last season.

      Frenkie de wrong position

Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong was played out of position in pre-season with Barcelona boss Xavi preferring SIX other midfielders.

Barcsa have reportedly agreed a deal with the Red Devils worth £72million in all for De Jong, 25.

But personal terms are still claimed to be an issue, with an ongoing dispute over unpaid wages.

The playmaker has rarely been used during pre-season – in a potential sign that the skint La Liga team want rid of his contract.

Xaxi left De Jong out of the club's first friendly contest against local Girona-based side Unio Esportiva Olot last week.

And then the Dutchman was only introduced off the bench for the second half of Barca's 6-0 smashing of Phil Neville’s Inter Miami.

Gab's Rich picking for Golden Boot winner

Arsenal's top summer signing Gabriel Jesus reckons new Tottenham counterpart Richarlison can win the Golden Boot this season.

Ex-Manchester City star Jesus also hopes to contest the award for top Premier League scorer – shared by Liverpool's Mo Salah and Spurs livewire Son Heung-min last term.

And he told the Mirror of fellow Brazil striker Richarlison: "He's a very good guy, amazing player, so I wish him all the best but not against us!

"I hope that we can can both end the season fighting for the Golden Boot because I like him."

Manchester City new boy Erling Haaland, Tottenham's Harry Kane and Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo – if he stays in the Prem- should also be challenging for the scoring plaudits.

Be car full what you wish for

Cristiano Ronaldo has a car collection worth a staggering £18million, writes ETIENNE FERMIE.

The Manchester United star owns a fleet including an £8.5m Bugatti and a £1m McLaren Senna.

After his hat-trick against Tottenham in March he even treated himself to a brand new £200,000 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera.

A study by the Bill Plant Driving School reveals that it would have taken Ronaldo 33 hours, 47 minutes and 56 seconds on his £24.96m annual salary to earn the £18,064,666 that his collection is worth.

Lionel Messi's car fleet is worth even more than Ronaldo's, but his higher salary would see him pay it off quicker. The Argentine's collection is worth £28,169,068 and includes a £1.5m Pagani Zonda.

He was also gifted Audi motors as part of their former sponsorship deal with Barcelona. With Messi's eyewatering £52m annual salary, he can pay off his total car collection in 27 hours, 17 minutes and 36 seconds of action.

Neymar is next on the list with an £11,790,864 collection including a rare Maserati. His stunning £31,304,000 salary sees him take eight hours, 52 minutes and 58 seconds to pay it off.

Forwards Karim Benzema and Zlatan Ibrahimovic come next,on £7,897,900 and £4,555,232 respectively.

Roma new-boy Paulo Dybala has a collection worth £2,750,527, while Juve's returning hero star Paul Pogba's garage includes a Rolls Royce in a selection worth £1.6m.
